미국에서 이방인으로 살아가기(6) - Living as a Foreigner in the US - Thanksgiving

미국에서 생활하면서 또 한 가지 한국과 다르다고 느낌 점은,

비오는 날이다.

미국에서는 우산을 쓰는 사람보다 우산을 쓰지 않고 다니는 사람을 더 많이 볼 수 있다.

한국에서는 언제부터인가,

산성비, 황사 등 환경오염 등으로 인해 '비를 맞는 것은 유해하다'는 인식을 갖고 있다.

따라서 비를 맞으면 머리카락이 빠진다는 이야기 부터, 

실제로 비 내린 날 이후 비 맞은 자동차를 보면 얼룩져 있는 것을 볼 수 있다. 

그래서 비오는 날은 세차를 피하고 비온 후 세차장에 줄이 길게 늘어져 있는 것을 볼 수 있다. 

 

Living in the United States, I feel that it is different from Korea,
It is a rainy day.
In the United States, you can see more people who do not use umbrellas than those who use umbrellas.
Since when in Korea,
It is recognized that 'it is harmful to meet the rain' due to environmental pollution such as acid rain and yellow dust.
Therefore, from the story that the hair falls out of the rain,
In fact, you can see that it is stained by seeing a rainy car after a rainy day.
So on a rainy day, you can see that the car wash is avoided and the lines are stretched on the car wash after rain.

 

미국에서는 비가 유해하다는 인식이 크지 않다.

그도 그럴 것이, 실제로 빗물이 크게 더럽지 않다.

미주리에서 비오는 날에 운전을 하면, 오히려 차가 깨끗해지는 경험을 할 수 있었다.

그래서 사람들이 비를 맞으면 안된다는 생각을 하지 않는 듯 했다.

맨하탄에도 비를 맞는 사람들이 많이 있다.

물론 갑작스레 비가 오는 날도 많지만,

한국처럼 비를 꼭 피해야 한다는 인식이 크지 않다.

When I drove on a rainy day in Missouri, I could have a clean car.
So people didn't think they should not be in the rain.
There are many people in Manhattan.
Of course, there are a lot of days when it rains suddenly,
Like Korea, there is no great perception of avoiding rain.

 

대기오염이 심해지는 것은 세계 어디나 비슷하겠지만,

특히 한국이 이웃 나라들에 의한 대기 오염이 심화되고 있는 것은 사실인 듯 하다.

중국의 황사와 미세먼지로 대기의 질, 빗물도 오염되고 있다.

중국이 쓰는 석탄의 양만 줄여도 한결 한국이 숨쉬기 편해지지 않을까 싶다.

한국도 비를 마음껏 즐길수 있는 날이 오길 바란다.

China's yellow dust and fine dust are also contaminated with the quality of the atmosphere and rainwater.
It would be easier for Korea to breathe even if it reduced the amount of coal used by China.
I hope Korea will be able to enjoy the rain.
