미국에서의 Thanksgiving은 연말을 두번째로 알리는 축제의 장이다. 

사실 할로윈이 그 시작의 첫번째라고 할 수 있다.

이제 Thanksgiving을 시작으로 12월은 거의 휴식기로 들어간다.

12월 한달을 크리스마스로 보낸다고 해도 과언이 아니다.

 

Thanksgiving in the United States is the second festival marking the end of the year.
In fact, Halloween can be said to be the first of its kind.
Now, starting with Thanksgiving, December is almost a rest period.
It is no exaggeration to say that the month of December is celebrated as Christmas.

 

Thanksgiving은 한국의 추석과 같은 의미를 가지고 있지만,

미국은 한국처럼 '설'을 기리는 공식적인 명절은 없기 때문에

Thanksgiving이 한 해를 마무리하고 새해를 맞이하는 가장 큰 명절인 듯 하다.

그리고 무엇보다 좋은 점은 

미국의 공식적인 휴일들은 무조건 요일로 정해진다는 점이다.

우리나라처럼 날짜에 맞춰서 징검다리 휴일이 생기거나 휴일이 겹치는 것을 피하기 위해

Thanksgiving은 항상 11월 넷째주 목요일과 금요일이다.

따라서 4일은 무조건 쉬게 되는 것이다.

미국의 공식적인 휴일들이 요일로 정해진다는 것은

정말 매력적이고 합리적인 것 같다.

 

Thanksgiving has the same meaning as Chuseok in Korea,
In the United States, there is no official holiday celebrating Lunar New Year like in Korea.
Thanksgiving seems to be the biggest holiday to end the year and welcome the new year.
And the best part is
Official holidays in the United States are always set on days of the week.
In order to avoid having stepping stones holidays or overlapping holidays according to the date like in our country,
Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday and Friday of November.
Therefore, you will definitely rest for 4 days.

It seems really attractive and reasonable.

 

한국처럼 가족들이 모이기도 하고, 

이날은 특히 칠면조 고기를 먹기도 한다.

여행을 계획하는 사람도 많고,

특히 맨하탄에는 다른 주에서 가족단위로 놀러오는 사람들로 북적인다.

그리고 회사 등에서 집으로 선물을 보내주기도 한다.

 

Like in Korea, families gather together,
On this day, turkey meat is especially eaten.
There are many people planning to travel,
In particular, Manhattan is crowded with families visiting from other states.
And sometimes companies send gifts to people's homes.

 

나는 미국에서 딱히 모일 가족이 없어서

그냥 휴식을 취하곤 하지만,

미국이야말로 정말 가족적인 분위기의 모습이 많다.

어디를 가도 항상 가족이 함께 하는 모습이 보기좋다.

한국도 명절을 요일로 정한다면,

좀 더 효율적으로 시간을 쓸수 있지 않을까 싶다.

 

I don't have any family to gather with in America.
I just take a break,
The United States truly has a family atmosphere.
No matter where I go, it's always nice to see family together.
If Korea also sets holidays on days of the week,
I think I could use my time more efficiently.
