NYC 에서 NJ로 가는 Path 타기 - How to ride Path

뉴욕에서 뉴저지로 이동할 때 가장 편리한 수단이 Path 이다.

NJ 위쪽으로 가려면 다른 수단을 이용해야 하지만,

Hoboken 이나 Jersey City  등 Middle 혹은 Lower Manhattan 건너편으로 가기에는 

더 없이 편한 수단이다. 

 

The most convenient way to travel from New York to New Jersey is Path.

To go across Middle or Lower Manhattan, such as Hoboken or Jersey City,
It is an extremely convenient means.

나는 WTC, World Trade Center에서 Path를 탔는데, 

가장 좋았던 점은 너무나 깨끗한 쇼핑몰이었다.

각종 샵들이 들어와 있는 이곳은 The Oculus라고 불리는 쇼핑몰인데

뉴저지로 가는 Path와 맨하탄 지하철이 다 연결되어 있다.

Path를 타러가는 눈과 귀가 매우 즐거웠다.  

 

I took the Path at WTC and World Trade Center.
The best thing was that the shopping mall was so clean.
This is a shopping mall called 'The Oculus' where various shops are located.
It is connected to the Path to New Jersey and the Manhattan subway.
It was very enjoyable to the eyes and ears while riding the Path.

 

나도 처음 타보는 것이라 어떻게 표를 사야하는지 망설였는데,

뉴저지에는 Omny 시스템이 없다. 

다만 Smart link 라는 다른 종류의 카드가 있고 Metro 카드를 충전해서 쓸수 있다.

나는 뉴저지를 자주 오가는 것이 아니었기에 Metro 카드에 금액을 충전해서 타기로 했다.

Vending machine에 가서 어떻게 해야 할지 보던 중,

언어에 한국어가 있음을 발견하고 매우 반가웠다.

처음 이용해 보는 만큼 실수를 하지 않기 위해 곧바로 한국어를 선택하고 이에 따라 눌렀지만,

역시 기계에서 쓰는 한국어들은 번역기만큼 어색했다.

정확하게 순서를 설명해주진 않았다.

 

Since it was my first time riding, I was hesitant about how to buy a ticket.
There is no Omny system in New Jersey.
However, there is another type of card called Smart link, and you can use it by topping up your Metro card.
Since I don't travel to and from New Jersey often, I decided to load money onto my Metro card and ride.
While I was looking at what to do at the vending machine,
I was very happy to discover that Korean was among the languages.
As this was my first time using it, I immediately selected Korean and pressed accordingly to avoid making a mistake.
As expected, the Korean language used on the machine was as awkward as the translator.
The exact order was not explained.

 

저런 번역을 좀 더 자연스러운 한국어로 바꾸려면 어디에 어떻게 제안해야 할지, 

궁금함도 앞섰다.

아무튼 일단, metro카드 충전은 카드를 먼저 넣고 시작하면 된다.

그리고 충전하면 끝이다.

충전은 캐시와 크레딧 카드로 할수 있다.

만약 Metro 카드가 없다면 새로 구입해야 하는데, 여기에서 문제가 생긴다.

내가 찾지 못한 것인지 모르겠지만,

오직 캐시만 받는 vending machine 때문에 캐시 10달러 짜리가 없으면 새카드 구매가 어려워진다.

그래서 ATM 기기가 옆에 있긴 하지만, 10달러를 찾기 위해 수수로 2-3불을 지불한다면 억울하지 않을 수 없다.

따라서 이러한 지하철 이용시에는 이미 카드를 가지고 있지 않다면 반드시 캐시를 준비해야 한다.

나는 20달러짜리 캐시만 있었는데, 계속해서 refuse하는 기계때문에 민망함을 감출수가 없었다.

그래서 이미 가지고 있던 Metro 카드를 다행히 지갑에서 찾아 충전할 수 있었다.

 

I was also curious,

about where and how to suggest how to change such a translation into a more natural Korean language.
Anyway, to recharge the metro card, you just need to insert the card first.
And just charge it and you're done.
Recharge can be done with cash and credit cards.
If you don't have a Metro card, you'll need to buy a new one, and this is where the problem arises.
I don't know if I couldn't find it,

but the vending machine only accepts cash, it becomes difficult to purchase a new card if you don't have $10 in cash.
So, although there is an ATM next to it, it is unfair to pay a 2-3 dollar charge to exchange for cash to get 10 dollars.
Therefore, when using these subways, you must prepare cash if you do not already have a card.
I only had $20 in cash, but I couldn't hide my embarrassment because the machine kept refusing.
So, fortunately, I was able to find the Metro card I already had in my wallet and recharge it.

 

Path 자체도 매우 쾌적하고 깨끗했다.

나는 New Jersey Jersy City, exchange place에 내렸는데,

내리자마자 보이는 허드슨 강 때문에 감탄을 금치 않을수가 없었다.

너무 아름다운 맨하탄 뷰에 깜짝 놀랐다. 

 

The Path itself was very comfortable and clean.
I got off at New Jersey Jersey City, exchange place,
I couldn't help but be amazed by the Hudson River visible as soon as I got off.
I was surprised by the beautiful view of Manhattan.

 

 

딱히 볼 일이 없더라도 한번쯤 Path를 타고 그냥 방문하고 싶은 곳이었다.

뻥뚫린 뷰가 정말 아름다웠다.

나는 항상 Middle Manhattan을 주로 봐왔는데,

Lower Manhattan 이 이렇게 아름다울 줄 몰랐다.

그리고 자유의 여신상까지 보인다는 것! 

이날 날씨가 너무 흐렸지만, 좋은 날은 더 좋을 듯 했다.

정말 Exchange Place는 새로운 경험이었다. 

좀 더 새로운 맨하탄의 뷰 감상을 위해 이곳을 꼭 추천하고 싶다.

 

Even if I didn't have anything to see, it was a place I wanted to visit at least once on the Path.
The open view was truly beautiful.
I've always watched Middle Manhattan,
I had no idea Lower Manhattan could be this beautiful.
And you can even see the Statue of Liberty!
The weather was very cloudy that day, but it seemed like a nice day would be even better.
Exchange Place was truly a new experience.
I would definitely recommend this place to enjoy a newer view of Manhattan.
