UN tour! - United Nations

맨하탄에 살면서 꼭 한번 방문해 보고 싶었던 UN(United Nations)!

회사가 쉬는 틈을 타서 투어를 계획했다.

맨하탄은 Wall Street, Broadway, 그리고 전 세계가 주목하는 또 다른 장소,

그게 바로 UN이지 싶다.

 

The United Nations (UN), which I always wanted to visit while living in Manhattan!
We planned a tour while the company was on break.
Manhattan is home to Wall Street, Broadway, and other places the world pays attention to,
I think that's the UN.

 

 

UN 투어는 누구나 신청해서 갈 수 있다.

물론 한국인 가이드와 하는 투어도 있다.

안으로 들어가면 각 회의장들을 볼 수 있고,

마치 박물관처럼 각 나라별로 기증한 기념품들이 존재하는데, 

한국에서 기증한 것은 초기 금속활자본이다.

한글의 우수성을 알리기 위함이랄까.

 

Anyone can apply for the UN tour.
Of course, there are tours with Korean guides.
When you go inside, you can see each conference hall,
Just like a museum, there are souvenirs donated by each country.
What Korea donated was an early metal-type book.
I guess it's to promote the excellence of Hangul.

 

 

언론으로만 보던 기자회견장과 안보리회의장을 직접 볼수 있는 것도 감회가 새로웠다.

각 회의장 마다 통역실이 있는데 그 곳을 볼때마다 영화 'The interpreter'가 떠올랐다.

내가 어느 역사의 한 장면과 순간 안에서 숨쉬는 느낄이랄까.

 

It was also a new experience to be able to see in person the press conference room and Security Council meeting room that I had only seen in the media.
There is an interpretation room in each conference hall, and every time I see that place, the movie 'The Interpreter' comes to mind.
It felt like I was breathing within a scene and moment of history.

 

건물 밖에 있는 조형물들도 하나하나 모두 의미가 있는 기념물들이다.

아래 조형물은 티비에서도 많이 봐왔던 것이기도 하지만,

비폭력을 상징하는 의미의 조형물이다.

이 앞에서 인터뷰하는 영상도 심심치 않게 볼수 있다.

 

Each and every sculpture outside the building is a meaningful monument.
The sculpture below is one that we have often seen on TV.
It is a sculpture that symbolizes non-violence.
You can often watch videos of interviews in front of this place.

 

유엔 안에 있는 모든 것들을 구경하고 나면,

유엔이 추구하는 것이 무엇인지, 많은 생각이 교차한다.

유엔의 헌장, 유엔이 추구하는 것을 충분히 느낄 수 있지만,

그 만큼의 힘과 역할이 뒷받침 되지 못하고 있는 것 같아서 안타깝다.

세계 평화와 공존을 위해 좀더 실질적이고 힘있는 유엔이 되길 바라면서..

다시 한번 방문하고 싶다.

 

After seeing everything inside the United Nations,
There are many conflicting thoughts about what the United Nations pursues.
The Charter of the United Nations, you can fully feel what the United Nations pursues,
It's a pity that it doesn't seem to be supported with that much power and role.
I hope to become a more practical and powerful UN for world peace and coexistence.
I would like to visit again.
