맨하탄 Trader Joe's

한국 냉동김밥으로 유명해진  Trader Joe's.

혹시나 하는 마음에 들러봤지만 역시나 품절이었다.

계산대에 있는 직원에서 '김밥'이라는 단어를 꺼내자 마자, 'oh! 김밥, it was sold out!' 이라는 대답이 얼마나 기쁘던지..

이제까지 김밥이 미국에서 '스시'로 불렸던 것을 생각하면 '김밥' 하나로 한국을 알리는 기분이었다.

11월에 다시 입고가 된다고 하니 한번 구입해서 먹어 볼 생각이다.

바로 싼 김밥 만큼은 아니지만, 나도 여러 번 기사를 읽어본 탓에 데울수 있는 특수 용기와 급랭후 해동을 해서 먹는 것이라 생각보다는 그대로의 맛을 보여준다고 하니 호기심이 생긴다.

If there is, but it was sold out.
As soon as I pull out the word 'kimbap' from the staff at the cashier, "OH! 'Kimbab' sold out, so popular!" ...
Kimbab was called 'sushi' in the United States for a long time, so I'm proud of the word, Kimbab.
The cashier said that it would be again in November, so I will give it a shot.
It's not the same as making kimbap right away, but I'm curious because I have read the articles many times about a special container, so I will try to eat it.

 

맨하탄 Trader Joe's에는 특별함이 있었다.

미주리에서도 가보았지만 이처럼 특별한 에스컬러이터는 본 적이 없다.

좁고 높은 빌딩이 많은 탓에 공간을 절약할 수 있는 신기한 에스컬레이터를 볼수 있었다.

 

Manhattan Trader Joe's was special.
I have been to Missouri, but I have never seen such a special escalator.
Because of the narrow and high buildings, I could see a mysterious escalator that could save space.

카트기를 위한 에스컬레이터

일명, 카트기 전용 칸이 있는 에스컬레이터이다.

사람칸에는 사람들만, 카트기 칸에는 카트기만 탈수 있다. 

이런건 처음 보는 듯 했다.

한국도 활용할수 있을 텐데 하는 생각이 들었다. 카트기는 엘리베이터를 타야하는 불편함을 생각하면, 훨씬 효율성이 높았다. 물론, 반대로 올라가기도 한다. 

낯선 광경에 한참을 바라봤다.

물론 사람들이 매우 질서 있게 잘 이용할 것이라는 기대 하에 이뤄지는 일이다.

 

This is an escalator with a dedicated compartment for carts.
Only people can ride in the people compartment, and only carts can ride in the cart compartment.
It felt like I was seeing something like this for the first time.
I thought that Korea could also use it. Cart escalator was much more efficient, considering the inconvenience of having to ride the elevator. Of course, it can also go up in the opposite direction.
I stared at the unfamiliar sight for a long time.
Of course, this is done with the expectation that people will use it well and in a very orderly manner.

 

올라가는 카트기

에스컬레이터 사고가 많은 곳에서는 엄두를 낼 수 없을 것이다.

내가 미국에 와서 크게 느낀 점 중에 하나는, 사람들이 질서를 잘 지킨다는 것이다.

남에게 피해를 주지 않으려고 하고, 교통질서를 비롯하여 어딜가나 질서를 잘 지킨다.

물론 그렇지 않은 몇 몇 사람들 때문에 눈쌀이 찌푸려지지만, 그런일은 매우 드물다.

그것은 아마도 미국은 공권력이 강하기 때문에 무엇인가를 잘못했을 때 그 처벌수위가 남다르기 때문도 있다.

그리고 아주 어린 나이부터 질서 교육은 매우 많이 이루어진다.

많은 사람들이 운전을 하는 것도 이러한 질서, 교통교육에 일조를 하고 있다.

그래서 미국에서 살다가 한국에 가면 대중교통을 탈때마다, 공공시설에 방문할때 마다 사람들의 행동이 무례하게 느껴지는 이유이다.

미국사람들은 아주 살짝만 남에게 스쳐도 'I'm sorry.' 가 매우 자연스럽다.

그리고 남을 배려하고 감사하고 사과하는 일이 일상이다.

기다림 역시, 그 누구도 이의를 제기하지 않는다.

한국처럼 빨리 되지 않으면 금방 화를 내거나, 새치기를 하거나, 남을 밀치는 행동은 없다.

'동방 예의지국'이라는 말이 무색할 정도로 무례한 경우가 많다.

아마도 저런 것이 설치되면 많은 사고가 일어날 수 있을 것이라 예상되는 이유는 한국인이기 때문일 것이다.

한국도 조금 더 삶의 여유를 가지고, 질서정연한 사회가 되면 저런 에스컬레이터도 이용할수 있지 않을까 싶다.

 

In places where there are many escalator accidents, this may not be possible.
One of the things I greatly noticed after coming to the United States is that people are good at keeping law.
They try not to cause harm to others and follow law wherever they go, including traffic law.
Of course, some people frown on those who don't, but that's very rare.
This may be because the United States has strong public authority, so the level of punishment when something is done wrong is strong.
And there is a lot of law education from a very young age.
The fact that many people drive also contributes to this law and traffic education.
That's why, when I moved to Korea after living in the U.S., I felt that people's behavior was rude every time I took public transportation or visited a public facility.
Americans say, 'I'm sorry' even if they just slightly pass by someone is very natural.
And being considerate, thankful, and apologetic to others are part of their daily lives.
The waiting, too, no one disputes.
Like in Korea, if something is not done quickly, there is no need to quickly get angry, cut in line, or push others.
There are many cases where the phrase ‘the country of courtesy in the East’ is so rude that it is meaningless.
Perhaps the reason why many accidents are expected to occur when something like that is installed is because I am Korean.
I think that when Korea becomes a more law society with more leisure in life, 

people will be able to use escalators like that.
