뉴욕 맨하탄과 퀸즈를 이어주는 페리 타기(Ride the ferry between Manhattan and Queens, New York)

뉴욕 맨하탄에는 퀸즈를 오가는 ferry가 있다. 

마치 한강 택시와 같은 역할을 한다.

복잡한 교통체증을 겪지 않고 5분이면 맨하탄과 퀸즈를 오갈수 있으니 이보다 더 좋을 순 없을 것 같다.

내가 탔던 페리는 맨하탄 34번가에서 롱아일랜드 시티 Hunter's point를 오가는 배였다.

이외에도 맨하탄 90가, 20가, Corlears Hook, Wall Street 등 곳곳에 페리 선착장이 있다.

The ferry I rode was a boat from 34th Street in Manhattan to Hunter's Point, Long Island City.
In addition, there are ferry terminals located at 90th Street, 20th Street, Corlears Hook, and Wall Street in Manhattan.

 

처음 맨하탄에 와서 집을 구하러 다니면서 롱아일랜드 시티 쪽을 오갔는데

당시 코비드 이후 사건 사고가 많던 지하철을 피하자니 버스를 타야 했으나,

어디서 타야할지 노선도 어렵고,

페리를 발견하고는 무작정 타보고자 했다.

가격은 지하철, 버스와 같은 $2.75, 노란색 티켓 자동 발매기가 있는데 거기에 내가 탈 노선을 선택하고

one way 인지 선택한 다음 현금이나 카드로 결제하면 된다.

요즘에는 앱으로도 이용할수 있다.

항상 오래된 것과 현대적인 것이 공존하는 미국, 나는 그래서 미국이 좋다.

페리에서 보는 풍경은 잠시나마 지친 나의 심신을 안정시키기에 충분하다.

거리가 너무 짧아서 아쉽지만, 답답한 도시 교통에서 벗어날수 있다.

이외에도 페리를 타고 맨하탄, 뉴저지, 다른 여러 섬과 바다를 둘러보는 코스도 많이 있다.

나도 이번 여름에서는 페리로 여행을 해볼 생각이다.
