Snowflake, 공중에 매달린 눈꽃 - 5th Ave & 57th Street

매해 겨울이 되면, 맨하탄은 각종 크리스마스 장식, 조형물들로 매우 빛이 난다.

Rockefeller center의 크리스마스 트리부터, 각종 빛나는 장식들이 길을 따뜻하게 해준다.

맨하탄 5th Ave와 57th Street 사이에는 매우 큰 눈꽃송이가 공중에 매달려 있다.  

이것은 1984년 처음 시작되었는데 2002년 "UNICEF Snowflake"로 명명되었다고 한다. 

 

Every winter, Manhattan lights up with various Christmas decorations and sculptures.
From the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, various shining decorations warm the streets.
Between 5th Ave and 57th Street in Manhattan, very large snowflakes hang in the air.
It was first launched in 1984 and was named "UNICEF Snowflake" in 2002.

 

 

전 세계 취약계층 어린이들에게 희망, 평화, 연민의 등불이 되는 의미를 지니고 있고 
개발도상국 어린이들을 위한 건강, 예방접종, 영양, 깨끗한 물 및 위생, 교육 및 보호를 지원하기 위해

수백만 달러를 모금하려는 캠페인을 알리는 의미도 있다고 한다.

 

It is meant to be a beacon of hope, peace, and compassion for underprivileged children around the world.
To support health, immunization, nutrition, clean water and sanitation, education, and protection for children in developing countries.
It is said that it also has the meaning of announcing a campaign to raise millions of dollars.

 

아름다운 만큼 지니고 있는 의미도 매우 따뜻하다.

보는 각도에 따라서 눈 결정체의 8각형으로 보이다가 직접 아래에서 보면 두번째 사진 처럼 보인다.

핸드폰이 그 아름다운 빛을 온전히 담아내지 못했지만,

실제로 보면 그냥 가만히 보고만 있어도 시간이 아깝지 않을 정도로 아름답다.

그리고 계속해서 색이 변화되기 때문에 지루하지도 않다.

그냥 어떻게 저렇게 만들었을까라는 생각밖에...

루이비통이 그 옆에 자리하고 있어 산뜻함을 한 층 더 해 주기도 한다.
