북한은 어떤 곳인가? 어디에 있는가?

외국에 나가서 '한국에서 왔다' 라고 소개하면  그들은 여전히 나에게 '북에서 왔느냐, 남에서 왔느냐'고 물었다.
그럴 때마다 남과 북의 차이를 알고 있는 것인지, 당황스러운 생각이 들었다.
실제로 아직 많은 사람들이 북한과 남한의 차이점에 대해 알지 못했다.

 

Where is North Korea? Where are they?
When I go abroad and introduce myself as 'I am from Korea', they still ask me, 'Are you from the North or the South?'
Every time that happened, I wondered if they were as aware of the difference between the South and the North.
In fact, many people still do not know the difference between North and South Korea.

 

특히 김정은이 누구인지는 알지만 누가 대한민국의 대통령인지는 모른다.
그들은 K-pop, 서울, 한국 음식에 대해 알고 있지만 북쪽에 있는지 남쪽에 있는지는 모른다.
한국은 여전히 작고 작은 나라에 불과하다.
나는 그들에게 남한과 북한은 확실히 다르다고 말하고 싶다.
그리고 일반적으로 러시아, 중국 또는 일부 국가의 대사관을 제외하고는 탈북민이 아닌 북한인을 만날 수 없다.

In particular, we know who Kim Jong-un is, but we do not know who is the president of the Republic of Korea.
They know about K-pop, Seoul and Korean food, but they don't know if they are in the North or the South.
Korea is still a small, tiny country.
I want to tell them that South Korea and North Korea are definitely different.
And generally, you cannot meet North Koreans who are not defectors except in Russian, Chinese, or some embassies.

나는 포스팅을 통해 내가 알고 있는 북한에 대해 이야기 하고 싶다.

그저 지리적으로 다른, 이념적으로 다른 점을 넘어서, 이제는 문화와 가치, 사회와 사람, 모든 것이 반세기를 넘어 달라지고 있음을 명확히 인지해야 한다.

서로의 다름을 알고 인정하는 것이 서로를 이해하는 첫번째 단계이자 목표이다.

 

I want to talk about North Korea that I know through posting.
Beyond just geographically and ideologically, we must clearly recognize that culture and values, society and people, everything has changed over half a century.
Knowing and acknowledging each other's differences is the first step and goal of understanding each other.
