Understanding North Korea Chapter III(북한에 대한 이해 chapter III)

나는 많은 탈북자들을 만나왔다. 

우리는 그들의 말을 어떻게, 무엇을 믿어야 할까?
솔직히 말해서 첫 만남에서는, 감히 아무것도 믿어서는 안된다고 말하고 싶다.

이것은 그 사람들의 문제가 아니라 북한 사회 시스템의 문제였다고 말할 수 있다.
그들의 사회 시스템을 이해할 수 있다면 무슨 말인지 알 수 있다.

그들은 평생 동안 매우 독특한 사회 시스템에서 살아왔다.
내가 아무 잘못을 하지 않았다면, 다른 사람은 매주 잘못을 해야만 한다.
그들이 살아가는 모든 사회, 학교, 직장, 군대, 농장 등 모든 곳에서 사람들을 매주 '자아비판'을 한다.
타인을 비판하지 않으면 스스로를 비판해야 한다.
이 시스템은 그들을 거짓말쟁이로 만들어 간다.

그들은 항상 서로를 감시하고 있으며 그들의 거짓말은 그들의 삶이다.
매주 누군가를 어떻게 비판할 수 있을까?
그래서 그들은 늘 서로를 의심하고 거짓말을 한다.
그들은 그것이 북한에서 살아가는 방식이라고 생각한다.

우리가 그들을 처음 만나면 그들은 몸에 밴 채로 우리를 의심하고 진실된 말을 하지 않는다. 
그래서 그들로부터 진실된 답변을 듣기 위해서는 그들의 사회를 진심으로 이해하고

그들의 경험을 받아들여 주는 것이 중요하다.
그렇지 않으면 그들이 진정으로 원하는 것과 말하는 것이 무엇인지 진실을 알 수 없다.
또한 우리도 그들의 말에 속게 된다.

이것은 탈북자뿐만 아니라 당연히 김정은에게도 해당된다.

특히 공산주의 전략, 그들의 화전양면 전술은 항상 앞과 뒤가 다름을 명심해야 한다.
누군가와 협상할 때는 그 단어와 언어를 이해하기 보다 그 사람과 그 사람이 살아온 사회를 이해하는 것이 더 중요하다.

 

I met so many North Korean defectors.
How and what can we believe their saying?
Actually, if you meet them for the first time, you should not believe anything.
This is not about people's characteristics but the social system.
If you can understand their social system, you know what I mean.
For life, they live a very unique social system.
If I am innocent, you are guilty every week.
They criticize every person in their group society like schools, workplaces, the military, farms, and neighborhood gatherings every week.
If I don't have anyone who criticizes, they must be criticized by themselves.
This system makes they are a liar.
They are always monitoring each other, and their lie is their life.
How can I criticize anyone every week? 
So they always doubt each other and make a lie.
They think those are their way to live in North Korea.
That's a true and so sad fact.

When we meet them for the first time, they doubt us, and they can't say anything truly.
So, in order to hear truthful answers from them, we need to understand and experience interviewing with them.
If not, you can't understand what they really want and say.
Also, we will be deceived by their words.

You know, this is not only about North Korean defectors but also Kim, Jung-un.
When negotiating with someone, understanding their life is more important than interpreting.
