Noryang- Deadly Sea (노량: 죽음의 바다)

오늘 소개할 영화는 '노량'이다.

뉴욕에서도 상영되고 있으니 그 인기를 실감할 수 있다.

그러나 한국 영화 치고는 반드시 자막이 필요할 정도로 중국어와 일본어 대사의 비중이 크다.

물론 미국에는 한국 자막은 없다.  

 

The movie to introduce today is ‘Noryang’.
Since it is being screened in New York, I can feel its popularity.
However, for a Korean film,

the proportion of Chinese and Japanese dialogue is so large that subtitles are absolutely necessary.
Of course, there are no Korean subtitles in the United States.

 

명량에 이어 노량, 

그리고 이순신 장군의 유명한 어록,

'나의 죽음을 적에게 알리지 말라'는 유언을 남긴 노량해전이기에

사실, 영화에 대한 기대가 컸다.

어디까지나 개인적인 영화감상평이지만, 

솔직히 나에게는 이 영화가 역사적 사실의 기대에 크게 부흥하지는 못했던 것 같다.

And the famous quote by Admiral Yi Sun-sin,
This is the Battle of Noryang, where he left a will saying, ‘Do not let the enemy know of my death.’
Actually, I had high expectations for the movie.
This is just a personal review of the movie, but
Honestly, I don't think this movie lived up to the expectations of historical facts.

 

일단, 화려한 배우 캐스팅과 연기는 두말할 것 없이 좋았다.

하지만 그러한 배우들의 연기를 뒷받침할 만한 대본이었나 하는 생각이 들었다.

또한, 역사적 사실은 역사대로 기록이 되어야 하지만,

허구가 조금 많았다고나 할까?

마치 이순신 장군이 아들의 복수를 위해 모든 전쟁을 이끌고 나가는 듯한 이야기 전개,

너무 많이 등장하는 아들의 죽음에 대한 스토리는,

역사와 이순신 장군을 알지 못하는 사람들에게 왜곡된 인상을 줄만 했다.

 

First of all, the brilliant casting and acting were good without a doubt.
However, I wondered if the script was enough to support the acting of those actors.
In addition, historical facts must be recorded according to history,
Would you say there was a bit too much fiction?
The story unfolds as if Admiral Yi Sun-sin is leading all the wars to avenge his son.
The story about the death of the son, which appears too often,
It was worth giving a distorted impression to people who do not know the history and Admiral Yi Sun-sin.

 

또한, 거북선이 그렇게 피해를 입지 않았음에도,

무리하게 픽션을 만든 것은 아닌지,

아쉬운 생각이 들었다.

전쟁과 전략에 포커스를 두기보다 

이순신 장군의 감성과 아들의 회상에 포커스를 둔 듯한 느낌이 들어서

영화를 보는 내내 그 부분에 있어 이순신 장군의 감정에 이입되기 보다는,

역사적 사실에 존재하는 이순신 장군의 위엄이 훼손되는 느낌이 들었다.

 

Also, even though the turtle ship did not suffer much damage,
Did you create fiction unreasonably?
I felt regretful.
Rather than focusing on war and strategy
I felt like the focus was on Admiral Yi Sun-sin's emotions and his son's reminiscences.
Rather than empathize with Admiral Yi Sun-sin's emotions throughout the movie,
I felt that the dignity of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, which exists in historical fact, was undermined.

 

그리고 영어 자막 역시,

한국어를 번역하는 부분은 맞지 않는 말들이 많았다.

한국어는 어려운 언어이다.

그리고 다른 언어들과 그 구조가 매우 다르기 때문에,

그리고 한국어는 매우 다양한 표현을 가지고 있기 때문에 

우리가 '아' 다르고 '어' 다르다고 말하는 것이다.

따라서 매끄러운 번역은 필수이고 그 의미를 온전히 알고 전달하려고 애써야 한다.

한국에서 영화를 한국어로 봤다면 모르겠지만,

영어 자막으로 본 나로서는 이런 부분들이 아쉬웠다.

꽤 많은 외국인들이 한국 역사에 관심을 가지고 이를 보러 왔는데,

과련 이순신 장군의 업적이 그의 마지막 길이 잘 전달되었을지 의문이다.

 

And the English subtitles too,
There were a lot of words that didn't make sense when translating from Korean.
Korean is a difficult language.
And because its structure is very different from other languages,
And because Korean has so many different expressions
We are saying that we are ‘ah’ different and ‘uh’ different.
Therefore, a smooth translation is essential, and efforts must be made to fully understand and convey the meaning.
I don't know if you watched the movie in Korean in Korea, but
As someone who watched it with English subtitles, these parts were disappointing.
Quite a few foreigners came to see this with interest in Korean history.
It is questionable whether the achievements of Admiral Yi Sun-sin have been well conveyed in his final days.

 

한국 영화가 해외에 진출하려면, 

조금 더 세심한 부분도 신경써야 하지 않을까 싶다.

내게는 조금 아쉬운 영화였다.

 

For Korean films to advance overseas,
I think we need to pay a little more attention to details.
It was a slightly disappointing movie for me.
